Time study
Time study is the systematic analysis of time required by a worker to perform each operation on the job. The purpose of time study is to determine the standard day’s work which can be performed by a worker. Before time study, motion study is to be performed so that the unwanted motions can be eliminated and only necessary and most desirable motions are used. An average worker is selected to perform the time study. With the help of time study a better method of doing a work can be introduced in an industry. A stop watch and time study board is required to record the time required in doing the each operation.
Procedure of Time Study:
· Select the work to be studied.
· The working methods, working conditions and equipments should be standardized.
· Select an average worker for time study.
· Take the readings a number of times.
· Note down the readings on study board.
· Select the mode values. Add the mode values of different elements to get the normal time to perform a job.
· Addition of various allowances to normal time will give you the standard time for doing a job.
