Now a day, the technologies are changing very fast. It is necessary to keep the employees up to date with new technologies and developments. Training is a process of learning to increase the knowledge and skill of an employee to do a particular job. Example – Training is required if a new machine or tool is installed in a plant.

Training – It is a short term learning process in which stress is given on job knowledge in addition to management skills.

The main aim of training is to

  • To improve the performance of employees
  • To improve productivity and quality standards
  • To install a new machine or to introduce new technology

Development – It is a long term educational process to obtain conceptual and theoretical knowledge for general purpose. It is the development of an individual in all respects.

Main objectives of development is

  • To develop overall personality of an executive
  • To prepare individual to achieve the desired goals
  • To increase the knowledge, ability and maturity of an executive

Role of training and development:

Technological advancement increases the size of an organization i.e. the number of machines, manpower and tools. It also increases the complexity and human problems. So training and development has an important role in an organization.

Increase in efficiency of employees – Training and development horns the skills of employees and hence increases their efficiency.

Reduced supervision – Trained and developed employee can do their work independently so less supervision is required.

Increased flexibility – The trained and developed employee can occupy the vacated positions of a key personal, when required.

Better human relations – There is an improvement in quality of human relations between the employees of an organization.

Increase in morale of employees – The employees co-operate with an individual or group. It results in achieving the desired goals of an organization because all employees are working together for this.
